7. QUANTIFIERS

Quantifiers tell us how much or how many of something we have.

MANY

Use MANY with plural countable nouns.

Examples:

• many apples

• many books

• many students

• many cars

Sentences:

• There are many students in the school.

• I have many books.

• She has many friends.

8. MUCH

Use MUCH with uncountable nouns.

Examples:

• much water

• much money

• much sugar

• much rice

• much time

Usually, much is common in questions and negative sentences.

Examples:

• How much water do you drink?

• How much money do you have?

• I don't have much time.

• There isn't much milk.

9. A LOT OF

A LOT OF can be used with BOTH countable and uncountable nouns.

Countable:

• a lot of apples

• a lot of students

• a lot of books

Uncountable:

• a lot of water

• a lot of money

• a lot of rice

Examples:

• There are a lot of students.

• I have a lot of books.

• She drinks a lot of water.

• We have a lot of homework.

10. FEW AND LITTLE

FEW

Use FEW with plural countable nouns.

Examples:

• few students

• few books

• few apples

• few friends

Example:

There are few students in the classroom.

LITTLE

Use LITTLE with uncountable nouns.

Examples:

• little water

• little money

• little time

• little sugar

Example:

There is little water in the bottle.

Easy way to remember:

FEW → COUNTABLE

LITTLE → UNCOUNTABLE

COUNTABLE = You can count them

🍎 one apple → two apples → three apples

UNCOUNTABLE = You don't normally count them individually

💧 water → some water → a glass of water

SOME = mainly affirmative

ANY = mainly questions and negatives

MANY = countable

MUCH = uncountable

A LOT OF = countable + uncountable

FEW = countable

LITTLE = uncountable
