PAST PROGRESSIVE

Examples: 

While the children were playing the adults were talking

I was running when the ball hit me

He wasn´t playing the piano when the bell rang

AFFIRMATIVE FORM

Example:

On July 18 we were dancing and singing

5 years ago I was practicing English for the IELTS test 

All the children were reading when the bird hit the window

She was cleaning the floor while he was playing outside

NEGATIVE FORM

Examples: 

She was not playing violin because she had a broken hand

We were not living together that year

I was not crying for you

They were not playing in that championship
